What we do
PRCF Cambodia supports conservation of wildlife and ecosystems through building the capacity of local communities, non-profit organizations, and local governments agencies. By strengthening community-based conservation, we equip people to care for their local wildlife, forests, and other natural resources, while addressing the need for sustainable livelihoods. What we protect
We help protect the biodiversity and high value forests within the Eastern Plains Landscape, and the biodiversity and fisheries of the Srepok River and nearby areas, which are considered to be globally significant and irreplaceable. These areas are home to at least 53 species of mammals, birds, and reptiles some at risk of extinction such as tigers, leopards, ibises, and vultures inhabiting in local forests, grasslands, savannahs, and river edges. Threats we address
We address various threats to protect the biodiversity and ecosystem values in the Eastern Plains Landscape of northeastern Cambodia. Here we work at Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary, Virachey National Park, and the recently established O’Yadav National Park and their surrounding areas. Some of the most serious threats at these protected area sites are related to the lack of law enforcement capacity, the loss of designated conservation lands, and the illegal extraction of wildlife and timber from within the protected areas. Current Initiatives
PRCF Cambodia currently has three conservation and community support programs that include Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary Collaborative Conservation, Giant and White-shouldered Ibis Community-based Conservation, and Srepok River Community-based Conservation programs. These initiatives engage local people in conservation efforts and sustainable natural resource-use practices that support their livelihoods while protecting biodiversity. Learn more

Past Initiatives
Some of our completed activities in the Eastern Plains Landscape of Cambodia include: the RAPIDS Project, which assessed the environmental impact of a proposed river dam in the Sesan River, and the Tiger and Prey Protection Project, which worked with Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary staff to help maintain tiger habitat and prey. Through these projects, PRCF has been able to establish baselines for subsequent conservation activities in the greater landacape. Learn more

Upcoming Initiatives
In addition to our current initiatives, there are several conservation activities we would like to engage in over the next few years. We are now in process of defining conservation needs and suitable interventions in Virachey National Park, just north of Lomphat and straddling the international border with Laos PDR and Vietnam, and in O’Yadav National Park, bordering Lomphat and the Cambodia – Vietnam international borders.
