What We Do
PRCF Vietnam engages communities in conservation management, applied research in wildlife, and habitat restoration at various sites in Vietnam’s northern mountainous region. Through these activities, we empower communities to lead sustainable conservation efforts near their villages and the habitat of various endangered species. Learn more

What We Protect
In Vietnam, we help protect some of the most critically endangered primates in the world, including Eastern black-crested Gibbon, Tonkin Snub-nosed Monkey, and Francois’ Langur. We have also worked with local communities to establish the first community-based conservation area in Vietnam and protect the largest natural freshwater lake in the country. Learn more

Threats We Address
Primary threats to the wildlife and habitats we protect are a lack of coordination between local law enforcement, conservation area staff, and communities for conservation efforts, as well as illegal hunting, logging, and unsustainable use of natural resources. We try to address these threats at each of our project sites, all with the common feature of local community involvement. Learn more

Current Initiatives
PRCF Vietnam is currently engaged in a larger program to protect the Francois’ Langur and its habitat through community-based conservation initiatives and the establishment of a first community-based conservation area in Vietnam. Other ongoing intiatives include a habitat restoration program to strengthen the viability of the Eastern Black-crested Gibbon and a program to safeguard the third largest population of Tonkin Snub-nosed Monkey. Past Initiatives
Previous PRCF Vietnam projects include the conservation of fisheries at Ba Be National Park Lake, and nest protection activities for the endangered White-eared Night Heron in the landscape of Xuan Lac Species and Habitat Conservation Area. We also have supported conservation awareness through a local schoolchildren project in the Lam Binh area, which is home to the largest known remaining population of Francois’ Langur in Vietnam. Upcoming Initiatives
We are now working to consolidate and expand our programs in Vietnam to include community-based conservation and co-management activities in the Xuan Lac Species and Habitat Conservation Area (Bac Kan province), starting in 2019. In late 2018 we surveyed a location in Cao Bang province looking at the possibility of a program for co-management of biodiversity conservation in a karts region with important herpetofauna. Further, within 2019, we hope to initiate a program of co-management the landscape between Kon Ka Kinh National Park and Kon Chu Ran Nature Reserve in the Gia Lai province highlands, establishing a new protected area to link the existing two.
