What We Do
PRCF Vietnam engages communities in conservation management, applied research in wildlife, and habitat restoration at various sites in Vietnam’s northern mountainous region. Through these activities, we empower communities to lead sustainable conservation efforts near their villages and the habitat of various endangered species. Learn more

What We Protect
In Vietnam, we have helped protect some of the most endangered primates in the world, including the Eastern black-crested Gibbon, Tonkin Snub-nosed Monkey, and Francois’ Langur. We have also worked together with local stakeholder communities to establish a the pilot first community-based conservation area in Vietnam. In the past, we also participated in efforts to protect the largest natural freshwater lake in the country. Learn more

Threats We Address
Primary threats to the wildlife and habitats we protect are a lack of coordination between local law enforcement, protected area personnel, and local stakeholder communities to support conservation needs, as well as the direct impact of illegal hunting, logging, and unsustainable use of natural resources. We try to help address these threats and other threats at each of our project sites, all with the common feature of involvement of local stakeholder communities and in collaboration with government conservation officials. Current Initiatives
PRCF Vietnam is currently engaged in a larger program to protect the Francois’ Langur and its habitat through community-based conservation initiatives and the establishment of a first community-based conservation area in Vietnam. Other ongoing initiatives include habitat restoration work to strengthen the long-term viability of the Eastern Black-crested Gibbon, measures to help establish a community-based conservation area in the Ha Lang region of Cao Bang province to protect high conservation value karst forests, and in the Kon Ha Nung area of Gia Lai province to protect key habitat to the Gray-shanks Duc Langur and the Northern-buffed-cheek Gibbon. In the past, we have helped to safeguard a remnant population of the critically endangered Tonkin Snub-nosed Monkey in the Na Hang Nature Reserve in Tuyen Quang province. Learn more

Past Initiatives
Previous PRCF Vietnam projects have included the conservation of fisheries at Ba Be National Park Lake, nest protection activities for the endangered White-eared Night Heron in the landscape of Xuan Lac Species and Habitat Conservation Area, carried out population surveys and conservation work towards the critically endangered Tonking Snub-nosed Monkey in Na Hang Nature Reserve, and supported the establishment of community forest conservation areas in five sites surrounding the high conservation value forests of Sinh Long, part of the pilot community conservation area protecting the endangered Francois Langur. Upcoming Initiatives
We are now working to consolidate and expand our programs in Vietnam to include community-based conservation and co-management activities in the Xuan Lac Species and Habitat Conservation Area (Bac Kan province). In late 2018 we surveyed a location in Cao Bang province looking at the possibility of a program for co-management of biodiversity conservation in a karts region with important herpetofauna, where we are now defining a meaningful conservation interventions for 2022 and beyond. Further, since 2019 we have been engaged in preparatory work into a program of co-management in the landscape between Kon Ka Kinh National Park and Kon Chu Ran Nature Reserve in the Gia Lai province highlands, where we hope to support the establishing of a new protected area in the Kon Ha Nung area to link the national park and nature reserve.
